Faster, Greener,
More Resilient Trade.

The UK–Taiwan Trade Digitalisation Pilot (TDP) marks a major step towards paperless, interoperable trade between two strategic partners.

Led by the UK Government and supported by LogChain, the pilot used real shipments between the UK and Taiwan to demonstrate how digital trade can improve efficiency, transparency, and resilience across international supply chains.

UK-Taiwan TDP at a Glance:
The Power of Digital Trade

The UK–Taiwan TDP tested how secure digital workflows can make global supply chains more efficient, transparent, and resilient. Using real shipments between the UK and Taiwan, the pilot measured the impact of digitalisation across semiconductor and Scotch whisky exports.

The results demonstrate that many trade processes can already be digitalised today, delivering measurable gains in efficiency, visibility, and sustainability.

80%

fewer shipment emails

75%

faster export clearance

67%

faster shipment processing

80%

90%

CO2 reduction in document handling

Participating Businesses:

  • Clas-SiC Wafer Fab – world’s first open SiC semiconductor foundry, Fife (Scotland)

  • Kimbland Distillery – independent farm-to-bottle whisky producer, Orkney Islands

  • Skene Scotch Whisky Ltd – boutique bottler and exporter of high-value Scotch

Supported by: the UK Government, British Office Taipei, and LogChain.

Proof of Concept to Proof of Progress

The pilot proved that digital trade is not just technically possible, it is operationally transformative. Most trade documents can now be securely digitised and shared across borders. Real progress depends on aligning people, processes, and policy as much as technology.

People and processes matter
Success depends on stakeholder engagement, trust, and training — especially for SMEs new to digital trade.

Legal recognition is critical
The pilot highlighted the need for mutual recognition of electronic trade documents and e-signatures to enable fully paperless flows.

Technology is ready
Over 70% of trade documentation can already be digitised and exchanged securely, with real-time visibility for both regulators and traders.

Collaboration drives confidence
Public–private coordination between the UK and Taiwan showed how pilots can turn innovation into lasting policy progress.

“Success depends on people, processes, and policy, not just technology.”

See Digital Trade in Action

The UK–Taiwan TDP demonstrated what is possible when technology, trust, and collaboration come together.

See how digital trade initiatives are helping businesses and governments reduce friction, improve resilience, and build the foundations for smarter global trade.

From PDFs to Progress

Turning paper into PDFs is not progress. This video shows the difference between digitisation and digitalisation, and also why the future depends on connected systems, automated workflows, and data that flows without friction.
